Gallery Statement

Five years ago the gallery showed Raji’s first solo exhibition titled “inspired”, with works that were described as “soul music” because of its subtileness and the deep interpretation it gives its audience.

Jess Castelloti, the director of visual museum of modern Nigeria Art, made this remark during the “inspired” exhibition “these paintings, executed with an accomplished technique, have a serene beauty that makes them particularly attractive and easy on the eye, but there is more in them than superficial prettiness, they have a genuine depth that makes them much more valuable, one can only hope that Raji takes this experimentation further”. This is exactly what Raji Mohammed has done, he has taken his accomplished technique further in this new solo of his titled “beauty and illusion”.

Raji Mohammed is a figurative painter who has over the years master his art. He is relentless in training and practicing in a pattern that speaks growth. Raji has trained under the watchful eyes of great masters, using everyday life occurrences and moods around him as inspirations to produce inspiring works of art.

Beauty and Illusion is an exhibition of explorative works of Raji Mohammed. A definition of growth, taking subtle to deep! There is no doubt that these intriguing works will communicate and find personal interpretations through your judgment.
